Proclaimed today by the Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli, for the project, voted unanimously by the jury, ‘Pordenone. City that surprises’, will receive one million euros to implement it. But Pompeii is not there: “We consider ourselves the moral victors”, says the mayor of the city Carmine Lo Sapio. “The work carried out by the candidate cities is of the highest level, south, north, plurality and variety, in this lies the success of the choice to name the Italian Capital of Culture. Pordenone is a city that combines the mild and silent industriousness of the Northeast with a cultural density and a capacity for project out of the ordinary” emphasizes Giuli at the ceremony in Rome, in the Spadolini Room of the ministry.

Excited the Deputy Mayor Regent of Pordenone Alberto Parigi who announces: “We are ready to surprise Italy. We are committed to ensuring that Pordenone can fully express this title. There is a city and a territory that combines culture and business, culture and work, which mends the dualism between cities with a cultural vocation and cities with an entrepreneurial vocation. We are open to cooperation with all of you”. The designation comes after that of Nova Gorica and Gorizia as European Capital of Cross-border Culture 2025. Among the applause weighs disappointment at the failure to designate Pompeii. “Certainly our project does not stop. We go forward with the same enthusiasm” says Mayor Lo Sapio.

“We have a budget, already planned, of more than 4 million euros for the management of the events of 2027 and for all the preliminary activities planned from November next year. In total, the investments will reach 36 million euros all in the process of financing with executive projects” explains Lo Sapio. That the work will not be lost and the projects will be carried forward, all the mayors of the candidate cities say in a unanimous chorus. The president of the jury, for the third consecutive year, Davide Maria Desario, launches to Minister Giuli the proposal to find a way to ensure an economic and moral recognition also to the other nine finalists for the commitment put in the candidacy project. A request accepted by the minister who says:”it will be our care to make the maximum possible effort so that all this happens with a greater commitment of resources”.

Giuli also points out that “this event is a model of dialogue and should be a lesson to all of us and to the entire parliamentary arc. All the finalists can access the City Yard that was born to not disperse and enhance as much as possible the projects that have been offered. From this year was also born the Cantiere Unior edition of Cantiere Citta, or a project dedicated to young people who in recent months are carrying out an intense program of cultural visits. Capital City is becoming something more than the premises with which it was born”.
